Springers Solar recently completed a system for a customer who wanted to live off-grid while travelling Australia, running fridges, lights, fans, sockets, inverters and more. We sat down with the customer and reviewed daily loads; designing a system that would allow the customer to travel comfortably.

The truck was being custom built while we were designing the system, so contact was maintained throughout the process, so all components were accounted for.

We had created a system consisting of a 200A/H Lithium Battery, 2 x LG 300W Panels, an Enerdrive 40+ DC-DC Charger & a 30-amp Victron 240V Charger. With an estimated daily usage of 150A/H it was important to have a battery that would allow for significant discharge. The panels would recover 170A/H per day, not factoring in the additional power that the battery would provide.

Monitoring the system is important so we also installed a Victron BMV-712 Battery Monitor and a Victron 100/50 Solar Regulator that had monitoring capabilities via Bluetooth. Our customer is able to monitor, the batteries volume, the solar panels output and the trucks loads, as well as a 30 day history log.

Our experienced auto-electricians made up a customised board for all of the components. This was mounted above the battery; and the wiring was all neatly run in behind and out of sight. We used manual reset circuit breakers and labelled them clearly so that the customer could see what each circuit breaker was for.

Upon completion, we ran full tests on each component, the Enerdrive DC-DC charger was pumping 49.9 Amps into the battery, the LG Panels were charging at 460W and the regulator was seeing 33 amps! This shows the charging efficiency that the Victron MPPT and Victron Lithium Battery offer.
