When our customer received a quote for grid connection to his Somerset Dam residence, he balked at the price they gave him.

An expensive series of hurdles and hoops to jump through lay before him, and ultimately he decided that he would source his home’s power elsewhere due to both cost and principle.

He reached out to Springers Solar to see whether a solar and battery system could supply his home with enough power without sacrificing any lifestyle aspects of the property, such as interior temperature control.

Eddie Springer, Director of Springers Solar, worked closely with our customer during the planning stage of the home build to determine a custom energy solution that would cover the cattle station home’s anticipated power requirements.

For a family of two and a large shed that also required a power connection, a custom solar and battery system was designed to power the property night and day, year-round.

“It’s an investment in our future, and we see this as a sensible way to address our power needs and give us some flexibility and freedom in what we do and how we do it”, said our customer.

50 x 400W Trina Vertex S solar panels were installed on the shed’s roof to maintain the main home’s exterior aesthetic and directly connect to the inverter and battery system to be stored in the shed. Trina Vertex S panels were the perfect candidate to maximise solar yield on the given roof space, ensuring enough power would be harvested to power the property.

Two Fronius Primo single-phase solar inverters were selected to offer 16kW of inverter capacity, enabling reliable conversion of solar to usable energy. The Fronius inverters are Selectronic certified and pair perfectly with the two Selectronic SP Pro 5kW inverter chargers that were installed to maximise battery charging efficiency.

The inverter supply connects to the BYD B-Box Premium Battery, to store up to 30.8kWh of battery storage. The system was designed to power a daily load of 25 - 30 kWh and is scaleable if the customer’s usage should increase.

“The fellows that came and did the job were great, they were efficient and effective, no mucking about, and Simon gave me a good rundown of all the components so I could understand exactly what was what. And look, it hasn’t missed a beat since, so I’m very happy”.

The solar array, inverters, and battery storage allow this property to function completely off-grid. With 20kW solar capacity and a generous solar inverter supply of 16kW, this home can run off renewable energy for a few days during inclement weather before the backup generator is programmed to step in.

High-quality components with industry-leading warranties were selected to ensure our customer’s peace of mind. When committing to an off-grid investment, proven components backed by warranty are critical; this customer’s system is covered not only by a power and performance warranty but also by Springers Solar’s complimentary 10-year workmanship warranty. For all our customers, this assures that their systems and components are protected for years to come by one of Queensland’s longest-standing and most experienced solar companies.

With the solar and battery system running exactly as promised, our customer can power his home and workspace with renewable energy and a $0 electricity bill. Total energy independence, without compromising on lifestyle
