Nestled in the heart of the Coomera waterways, and home to over 90 businesses, the Gold Coast City Marina (GCCM) is a world-renowned destination for repairs, maintenance and refits on marine vehicles. As one of the largest marinas in the Southern Hemisphere, it boasts a maximum capacity of 550 vessels at one time, making GCCM a premium destination for all vessels, from personal boats to luxury yachts and superyachts.

Having been hit by the pressures of ever-rising energy prices and with a commitment to cleaner, better energy practices in mind, GCCM is striving to increase the amount of solar energy they and their tenants have access to. So when one of Gold Coast City Marina’s bigger tenants, Mercury Marine, approached the GCCM team hoping to install a solar system to help offset their energy usage, the GCCM team contacted Springers Solar for expert advice and premium service.

As one of the largest marine engine manufacturing businesses in the world, Mercury Marine strives for excellence in not just their products, but in their business practices too. With a strong commitment to sustainable practices and a large green footprint, the Coomera team were looking to extend their sustainability to their energy consumption. Recommended by the team at GCCM, Springers Solar provided a detailed quotation to help Mercury Marine realise their solar energy goals and got straight to work.

“We were rookies to it all but [the Springers consultants] explained and unpacked everything to us clearly.”

- Mike Wilesmith, Regional Manager of Mercury Marine’s QLD Branch.

102 x 390W Trina Vertex S solar panels were installed on Mercury Marine’s large rooftop. Utilising advanced and reliable solar cell technology, the 390W Trina Vertex S panels were the perfect candidate to maximise solar yield on the factory, ensuring they harness and consume the required energy output from their solar system. Comprised of Tier 1 components inside an above-industry standard anti-corrosion casing, the premium 30kW Sungrow Three-Phase Inverter was the perfect option to complete their new solar system.

Mike and his team at Mercury Marine are able to jump straight into 24/7 live monitoring of their system through Sungrow’s iSolarCloud platform, enabling the team to track energy production and use along with the ability to troubleshoot any issues live.

The state-of-the-art solar system at Mercury Marine is set to save more than just dollars - in addition to the 47% reduction to their electricity bills per year, the new system will help reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50 tonnes per year. It is a pivotal step forward for Mercury Marine and GCCM in their combined sustainability efforts.

The Marina has implemented a range of sustainability initiatives, including the installation of a large solar panel array on the roof of the Marina's main building. In addition to the solar panels, the Marina has implemented energy-efficient lighting throughout the facility and installed a rainwater harvesting system to reduce water usage. The Marina's commitment to sustainability has earned it a 4.5 star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.

The Gold Coast City Marina's solar energy commitment is an important step in reducing its carbon footprint and protecting the local marine environment. By using renewable energy sources, the marina is able to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and lower its greenhouse gas emissions. This is a positive step towards creating a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future for the Gold Coast and the broader marine industry.

“It's been a phenomenal experience. The word seamless would be the way to describe it. We’re managing staff here, and we’ve got trucks coming and going all the time. [The Springers team] were very respectful, came in, did the job and were in and out. We hardly knew they were here. Disruption to business: 0%.”
