From 16th June 2023, Brisbane motoring enthusiasts will have an exciting new venue to explore. The Brisbane Motor Museum, located in Banyo, is a luxe hub tailored for automobile and bike lovers. Spanning over 900 square metres, the museum boasts an exhibition space that showcases 40-60 vehicles. Similar to an art gallery, the exhibitions rotate every three months, aligning with a specific theme.

To ensure optimal conditions for the preserved vehicles and offer a comfortable experience for visitors in the heart of Brisbane, a substantial amount of energy will be consumed daily to operate the continuous air conditioning and humidity control systems.

To mitigate the high electricity costs associated with these requirements, the museum engaged Springers Solar to install a 100kW solar system. Maximising available space, the system incorporates 270 x 370W SolarEdge Smart Panels, strategically placed on both the tilted and flat roof areas of the building. The museum has opted for three 30kW three-phase SolarEdge inverters, known for their exceptional performance in commercial applications.

Thanks to the inclusion of a 54kWh battery storage capacity, provided by four Tesla Powerwalls discreetly placed within the interior, the museum achieves a remarkable level of self-sufficiency on solar energy. These batteries not only ensure the security and protection of the museum, especially crucial for preserving the materials of the showcased “old world” cars and bikes, but also serve as an immediate backup power source during power outages. Essential appliances would continue to operate seamlessly, and nighttime temperature control power usage would be offset by the batteries.

By implementing this solar power and battery system, the museum significantly reduces its carbon footprint and electricity bill. It is projected to save 192 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, preventing their release into the atmosphere.

“It was hassle-free and very seamless, and as you can appreciate, two years from the start of the installation there is a lot that can go wrong, but Springers didn’t miss a beat the whole way through. Even when we had delays from multiple contractors and suppliers, [Springers] managed to fit in the bill when we needed them and hassle-free”.
