Tesla recently announced the Tesla Powerwall 3 to the world. So what does this mean for the Australian market? Here's what we know so far.
Availability in Australia
The Powerwall 3 has exclusively launched the Beta Version in the US market. Its availability in Australia for consumer purchase is speculated to hit sometime in late 2024, but we wouldn't be surprised if this was pushed back into 2025 (historically speaking).
Great for new systems... but, not great for existing systems
The biggest difference between Powerwall 2 and Powerwall 3 is that Powerwall 3 has a fully integrated solar inverter, meaning that you won't need to purchase a hybrid solar inverter from brands such as SolarEdge, Sungrow, or Fronius to connect your battery to your solar system.
This is awesome if you are looking for a brand-new solar and battery-connected system... but if you already have solar installed, then the Powerwall 3 is probably not for you. Powerwall 3 is incompatible with other solar inverters and is even unable to be installed alongside previous Powerwall models due to its integrated inverter. Therefore, retrofitting Powerwall 3 isn't going to be an option.
If you're in this boat, we would recommend Powerwall 2 any day of the week.

The Powerwall 2 is still one of the most advanced solar batteries on the market, and with the current QLD Battery Booster rebate, is exceptional value for money.
