Join The World's Transition Into Sustainable Energy
Use More of Your Solar
Most homes use a fraction of the solar energy they collect. Instead of sending excess solar energy into the grid, Powerwall stores it for use at any time.
Backup Your Home
Powerwall protects your home during a power outage, keeping your lights, Wi-Fi and refrigerator running.
Live Powerwall Data
Access real-time solar generation and battery data via the Tesla monitoring app.

How Do Solar Batteries Work?
Solar batteries, or solar energy storage systems, work by storing electricity generated by solar panels during the day so that it can be used later when the sun isn’t shining.
- Solar panels on your roof collect sunlight as direct current (DC) electricity
- The DC electricity is then sent to a solar inverter, which converts it to alternating current (AC) electricity that can be used to power your home or business.
- Any excess electricity that is generated by the solar panels and not used immediately by your home or business can be sent to the solar battery storage system for later use.
- When the sun goes down or when you experience a power outage, your home or business will draw electricity from the solar battery rather than from the grid, reducing your electricity bill and carbon footprint as you rely largely on the solar power you have generated throughout the day.
If you didn’t have a solar battery installed, your excess solar energy would be exported to the grid in exchange for a feed-in tariff (this can vary depending on your electricity provider, but generally, it is a few cents per kWh).
Solar batteries allow you to maximise the solar energy you produce; using up as much of your solar as possible is the key to maximising your solar savings, rather than relying on measly FiT rates.

Control Your Energy From Anywhere
The Tesla app allows Tesla Powerwall and Tesla Electric Vehicle owners access to detailed and real-time information about their in-home electricity system and EV state-of-charge. If you have a Tesla Powerwall installed at your home, then you should be taking advantage of the Tesla app to ensure you are maximising your ability to:
- Monitor your solar production and consumption
- Understand the flow of energy in your home
- Customise your Powerwall according to your energy preferences
Understanding the “ins and outs” of the Tesla app will allow you to widen your control and maximise usage of your Tesla Powerwall and your solar energy system. In this guide, we’ll break down the app’s tabs and features so you can get the most out of your Tesla Powerwall.

Australia's Largest Virtual Power Plant
Imagine an Australia where homes across your state form a unified, grid-supporting network using renewable energy from solar battery systems. This is the vision Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) have. A VPP is a technology that aggregates independent household solar and battery systems to create a unified network that acts as a clean energy virtual power plant. The idea is to form a community-supplied, decentralised power network that supports and stabilises the electricity grid.
The Tesla Virtual Power Plant connects Tesla homes to share clean solar energy with the grid. The Tesla technology optimises the energy stored within your Powerwall to meet your homes needs, and then support the grid when that energy is needed most. In return, you can receive competitive energy rates, feed-in-tariffs and Grid Support Credits.
Program Benefits Include:
- Access to Australia's largest Virtual Power Plant purpose-built for Powerwall
- $1,000 Powerwall Credit for new owners
- No lock-in contract energy plan
- Minimum of 20% backup reserves during a grid outage
- Access to Carbon-Neutral energy at no additional cost
