As more solar batteries are introduced to the Australian market, energy independence is closer than ever for the average household.
Incorporating solar batteries into your solar energy system is the best way for homeowners to maximise their solar self-consumption, eliminate their electricity bills, and protect their homes from power outages.
But, solar batteries remain a considerable investment. With an average payback period of 5-7 years, we recommend solar batteries for those interested in fortifying their homes against the unstable grid network and changing energy landscape. Although high-quality solar batteries offer warranty periods of 10 years, return on investment isn’t necessarily the primary reason property owners are installing batteries.
Read more: Why are people buying solar batteries in Australia?
In our experience, Queenslanders are installing batteries for three main reasons:
- Protect their home against power outages;
- Maximise their solar self-consumption and are keenly interested in producing, storing, and consuming their own energy;
- Fed up with electricity retailers offering measly feed-in tariff rates and would prefer to use their excess solar energy rather than export it.
Solar batteries can be added to an existing solar energy system so long as you have a hybrid, or battery-ready, solar inverter. If you don’t have a hybrid inverter, that's okay. There are some batteries we can AC couple to your existing inverter, but your options are more limited.
If you do have an existing solar system with a hybrid inverter, the good news is that your home is ready for a battery whenever you need it - simply chat to a solar battery specialist (like us!) to discover suitable solar batteries for your system.
If you don’t have solar yet, let alone a solar battery, that means your property is the perfect blank canvas for modern solar and battery technology. It also means that you’ll save on upfront costs compared to retrofitting a solar battery at a later stage. Even if you’re not ready to commit to a solar battery, it gives you the opportunity to install solar with a hybrid inverter, allowing you to connect a battery in the future when it suits your needs or budget.

As one of Queensland’s most experienced solar installers with over 23 years of experience, we know what it takes to design and install a high-performing solar system that will operate beyond its warranty period. A high-quality system consists of trusted, proven components paired with an experienced installer.
To help you identify high-quality solar batteries, we’ve listed the best solar batteries available in Australia in 2025.
Measures of a high-quality solar battery
We measure the quality of a solar battery in six ways:
- Brand longevity in the market
- Energy storage (kWh)
- Ability to upscale
- Warranty period
- Monitoring capabilities
- Australian-based service and support
We also consider key features the battery offers, application versatility, phase backup, and price, but these factors are application-specific. Price is important, but quality is more important - therefore, our list only includes the best-performing, safest batteries available, regardless of price point.

Tesla Powerwall 3
Founded in 2003, Tesla is a well-established, key player in the energy and EV market. In 2024, Tesla released the Powerwall 3, the successor of the top-rated Powerwall 2.
Powerwall 3 has followed suit and is capable of delivering reliable stored solar energy to homes at night to keep them powered. A pioneer in in-built solar inverter technology, Powerwall 3’s integrated design allows a greater yield of solar energy capture compared to standard models.
Read more: Tesla Powerwall 3 vs Tesla Powerwall 2
With 13.5kWh of storage capacity, Powerwall 3 can keep an average home’s air conditioning running through most of the night before recharging with solar as soon as the sun rises.
Larger homes or homes with increased energy consumption can easily scale Powerwall 3 to suit their requirements. Up to 4 units can be supported in parallel, but this is likely to increase soon with Tesla’s promise to release energy expansion units.
Up to 10kW of single-phase backup power is available, so if you experience a power outage you can keep your essential appliances running with whole-home backup.

Tesla offers an excellent app and user interface so you can track your energy production and consumption with ease - it looks so good that you’ll find checking in on your Powerwall addictive. You can also customise your usage settings and consume more of your solar for greater value and lower electricity bills.
Powerwall 3’s 10-year warranty, multi-stage protection design, and extensive safety certification make this solar battery one of the most reliable and trusted units on the market.
Powerwall 3 should only be installed by a Tesla Premium Certified Installer (like us!) to ensure that your battery continues to operate optimally for its lifespan. This guarantees you will see a return on your investment.

Sigenergy SigenStor
Sigenergy is one of the newer players in the Australian solar battery market, having only arrived in 2023 with CEC approvals. Within a year, however, Sigenergy has already been listed on Solar Quotes Installer Choice Awards in 2024, rocketing to second place above battery mainstays like BYD and SolarEdge.
New? Yes. Inexperienced? No. Sigenergy is founded and operated by Huawei’s ex-president, Tony Xu, which has brought across a definite edge of advantage in AI integration and smart device innovation.
To say that we are big fans of this battery is an understatement - Sigenergy SigenStor is a huge disruptive innovator in Australia’s battery market, and it is making waves for all the right reasons.
SigenStor is a five-in-one home energy solution that combines solar, storage, and EV charging into one clean, compact unit. A single stack can include the solar inverter, EV DC Charger, Battery PCS, Battery Pack, and EMS, simplifying the installation process and overall look of your system.

Sigenergy’s stacked design allows you to scale capacity to suit your needs. Store from 5kWh up to 48kWh of energy per stack, and if you need more, you can connect multiple SigenStor’s in parallel.
SigenStor also offers blackout protection with whole-home backup. It is only one of two batteries we recommend that offers single-phase or three-phase backup (three-phase homeowners, rejoice!).

One of SigenStor’s most exciting features is its integrated EV bi-directional charging. Sigenergy is one of the first to accomplish this technology, and it offers a massive advantage over other solar batteries. Featuring 25kW bi-directional charging and V2X-ready technology, your EV management is future-proofed with the ability to charge your EV from solar and charge your battery from your EV.

Sungrow SBH
Sungrow introduced the SBH battery model in early 2024, and since its release, we’ve had great success with it and recommend it as the better-looking big brother to the original Sungrow SRT model.
Sungrow was founded in 1997 and remains one of the world’s leading solar manufacturers. With research, development, and delivery of solar inverters and energy storage systems, Sungrow continues to produce high-quality, reliable solutions for the Australian market.
Sungrow’s battery systems permit homeowners and businesses to store excess solar energy and consume it during peak demand periods or power outages, effectively offsetting a significant portion - if not all - of your electricity bill.

Sungrow SBH battery installed by Springers Solar
The SBH battery is an LFP cell with a multi-stage protection design and extensive safety certification, making it a safe option for installation indoors or outdoors.
Similar to the Sigenergy SigenStor, the SBH is a modular design that allows you to customise and scale according to your home’s needs. Each unit offers up to 5kWh of storage capacity, and with the ability to scale up to 8 units per stack, you can achieve 40kWh with one SBH stack. For larger capacity requirements, up to 4 stacks can be installed in parallel.
