About the Cheaper Home Batteries Program:
Summary of currently available information:
- It is a Labor government initiative
- $372 rebate per kWh of battery capacity. This equates to $5,022 rebate on a Tesla Powerwall 3 and $2,976 on a Sigenergy 8kWh battery stack.
- The rebate will be paid from 1st July 2025. However, any approved battery installed from 07/04/2025 will receive the rebate from 1st July if Labor is elected.
- The installed battery must be Virtual Power Plant (VPP)-ready and must be installed alongside new or existing rooftop solar until 2030.
- The discount will be delivered through the existing Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme.
- Small businesses and community facilities are eligible to access the subsidy.
- The discount can be combined with existing state schemes and other federal initiatives.
How much is the rebate?
The program is not means-tested. Any Australian can access the rebate.

How to apply:
Your rebate will be applied to your quotation as an upfront point-of-sale discount. This means that you don't need to apply to receive the rebate; your solar installer will automatically do it for you.
