Sungrow SBH & Solar Hybrid System
LAWNTON
This new build in Lawnton, QLD, presented a working family with the opportunity to set up their home for long-term energy efficiency and cost savings from the outset. With typical electricity usage expected for a family, they were keen to keep utility costs at a minimum given the rising cost of power in Queensland.
We paired a 15.4kW Canadian Solar array with a 15kW three-phase Sungrow hybrid inverter and 30kWh of Sungrow SBH battery modules. This system provides ample generation capacity to power the home and charge the batteries during the day, leaving plenty of stored power to keep the home running during the night.

Frequently asked questions
Here are some common questions about solar systems for new builds.
If possible, plan for solar during the build phase, even if the installation happens shortly after handover. Early planning allows for better inverter placement, switchboard design, and roof layout. It’s far easier (and often cheaper) to design solar into the home than retrofit it later.
In most states, solar isn’t legally mandatory, but energy efficiency requirements under the National Construction Code often make solar the simplest way to meet compliance targets. In some developments and states, solar is effectively standard practice.
New homes often have higher energy demand, especially with electric appliances, ducted air conditioning, EV charging, and future battery plans. Many new builds install 6.6kW to 13kW systems to future-proof their energy needs. We design systems based on your expected lifestyle, not just minimum requirements.
Absolutely, and this is one of the biggest advantages of pre-planning. Ideally, you want large, unshaded roof sections facing north (or east/west), minimal obstructions like vents, and enough space for future expansion. A quick consultation during the planning stage can make a big difference.
We would certainly recommend it if you can. Even if you’re not installing a battery immediately, we recommend installing a hybrid inverter or ensuring your switchboard is designed for future battery integration. It’s a simple step now that can save you money later.
Pricing is similar to existing homes, with most quality systems ranging between $4,000 and $10,000+, depending on system size and components. The benefit of new builds is a clean, straightforward installation, which often means fewer complications.
Yes. Energy-efficient homes with solar are more attractive to buyers and tenants. With rising electricity prices and growing EV adoption, a solar-ready or solar-plus-battery home is a strong long-term asset.
Definitely, and if an EV is in your future, we recommend planning for it. Even if you don’t own an EV yet, installing the correct cabling and switchboard capacity during construction makes adding a charger later simple and cost-effective.
Builder packages can be convenient, but they’re often designed to meet minimum compliance, not maximise performance or long-term savings. We recommend reviewing panel quality, inverter brand, warranty, and system size before committing. Upgrading early can prevent costly changes later.
The earlier, the better. Ideally, during the electrical planning stage. We can work alongside your builder or electrician to ensure inverter placement, switchboard sizing, roof layout, and future battery readiness are all done correctly, the first time.
