Australia Reaches a Rooftop Solar Milestone, with 4 Million Installations Nationwide

The Federal Government has just announced a significant milestone for the Australian solar industry and Australians at large. As of November 2024, Australia has surpassed four million rooftop solar installations, an astonishing 18,000% increase since 2008 when we had only 22,000 systems installed nationwide. 

The Clean Energy Council states that “Australian households have now collectively saved up to $6 billion annually off their energy bills”. If we break that down, that’s approximately $1,500 per installation annually.

Rooftop solar plays a significant role in Australia’s energy mix as our second-largest contributor to renewable energy generation. Renewables at large contribute more than 40% of Australia’s electricity. 

Rooftop solar contributes significantly to Australia's progress toward emissions reduction targets, while also supporting over 18,000 jobs across the solar sector—from sales and design to installation—according to the Clean Energy Council.
