Nestled amongst the Glass House Mountains, this family home was looking to take control of their power use and become energy independent. With electricity prices ever-increasing, they knew it was time to make the switch to solar.
The customer reached out to Springers Solar to see what options were available to avoid the ongoing expense of conventional grid power. Our team worked closely with the customer to analyse the home’s energy consumption and future power usage. It was determined that an off-grid energy solution was the right call for this property.
Taking advantage of the brand-new shed on the property, a 10kW solar array was installed on the shed roof. 24 Trina Solar 430W Vertex S modules were selected for their 21.5% module efficiency, large power output, and extensive product and power warranty.
The array was coupled with a standalone Selectronic system, consisting of a 7.5kW Selectronic SP Pro and an 8.2kW Fronius Primo inverter solution. This standalone solution combines the best of both the Selectronic inverter/charger and the Fronius inverter into one system that seamlessly integrates with solar batteries.
5x 4kWh PowerPlus Eco 4840p batteries complete this system, providing 20kWh of solar storage for the home. The PowerPlus batteries, which were neatly housed in a PowerPlus IP21 battery cabinet, were chosen for their ability to maintain integrity at a high depth of discharge. This custom system maximises the usability of the generated solar and ensures the batteries are charged when the customer needs it the most.
To offer complete peace-of-mind, a Yanmar Himoinsa HCY 6kVa generator was also installed on the property. This helps ensure our customer would continue to have power in the case of prolonged inclement weather or other emergencies. Due to the significant 20kWh battery capacity, this home can continue to run backup power during such periods for approximately two days before the backup generator is required.
Since the system was installed, this Stanmore home has saved approximately 3,377kg of CO2 emissions from being released. In addition, the customer has been able to reduce their electricity bill to $0, becoming completely self-sufficient.
The family’s solar and battery off-grid system will comfortably power the home day and night, all without an electrical grid connection. This installation is a testament to the power of a well-designed and installed off-grid system and demonstrates the financial possibilities of disconnecting from the grid without compromising on lifestyle.
