This Fig Tree Pocket home sought to secure energy independence and protection from frequent power outages. As Queensland weather continues to intensify, particularly over the summer period, blackouts are common and this homeowner wished to overcome this recurring issue by generating and storing their own power.
Dave Whinnett, a Springers Solar Energy Consultant, met with this customer to complete a thorough site inspection and understand his power requirements before designing a suitable system that remained within budget.
Given the large amount of roof space available on this property, Dave designed a 40.92kW solar array comprising 88 Canadian Solar 465W N-Type solar panels. This large system will cover their daily household load (EV charging, pool cleaning, hot water system, WFH office, and typical indoor appliances) and produce excess electricity. This array was perfect to supply the grid-tied hybrid system that the customer wanted.
Each solar panel was fitted with a SolarEdge Power Optimiser to guarantee performance even in shaded or cloudy conditions and was paired with two SolarEdge 10kW Genesis Inverters.
Tesla Powerwall 3 was this homeowner’s solar battery of choice. It offers 13.5kWh of storage capacity, whole-home backup, and an excellent monitoring user interface so the customer can easily track usage patterns and charged capacity. Powerwall 3 has an integrated 10kW hybrid inverter to seamlessly convert solar energy to stored power.
This family is now largely energy-independent, only purchasing energy from the grid during extended periods of inclement weather. Powerwall 3 seamlessly backs up the home’s priority circuits during power outages, protecting the family from experiencing extensive blackouts during weather events.
