The Alvolta Luna-Orbit 50A DC-DC Charger with 50A MPPT is built to keep a large house battery charged from two sources in one unit, drawing from your alternator while you drive, your solar panels while you're parked, or both at once. Charging a 12 V house battery at up to 50A from 12/24 V alternator systems and up to 700 W of solar, it suits large caravans, motorhomes, expedition 4WDs and trucks running substantial lithium banks for extended stays off-grid. It works with smart and conventional alternators, and its starter maintenance mode can send solar to your vehicle's starting battery.

It does the job of two chargers in a single unit, mounted in a battery box, rear compartment or cabinet. It's rated IP32, so it needs a dry, ventilated spot out of direct sun and rain, well away from the engine bay. A backlit LCD display shows charging status at a glance, and built-in Bluetooth lets you monitor both inputs and adjust settings through the Alvolta app. Rated to operate from -35°C to +65°C, it's ready for the extremes of Australian touring, and it's backed by a 3-year warranty.

The Luna-Orbit combines a 50A PowerCatcher MPPT solar controller and a 50A DC-DC alternator charger into a single unit to charge a 12V house battery bank. It supports multiple selectable charging priority configurations:

Solar Priority: Maximises green energy harvesting from solar panels before pulling power from the alternator.
Generator / Alternator Priority: Prioritises vehicle alternator charging while driving.
Dual Charging: Uses both solar and alternator inputs simultaneously for maximum fast charging.
Starter Maintenance & Forced Charge Modes: Maintains the starter battery via solar when the house battery is satisfied, or allows forced charging when needed.

Priorities and parameters can be set directly via the onboard LCD menu or the Alvolta app.

Solar (PV) Input: Accepts up to 55V DC maximum open-circuit voltage with a 50A maximum PV input current (recommended solar array size up to 700W). Features >99% MPPT conversion efficiency and up to 99.9% MPPT tracking speed.

Alternator Input: Compatible with 12V and 24V conventional, intelligent (smart), and custom alternators (auto-identified via ignition signal). Supports up to 32V DC maximum input voltage, 65A maximum input current, and recommended 700W power output.

Yes. When solar energy is available, the Luna-Orbit automatically provides maintenance trickle charging to the starter battery (up to 10A in 12V systems or 5A in 24V systems) once the auxiliary house battery is full.

The Luna-Orbit unit supports Lithium (LI), Sealed Lead-Acid (SLD), Gel (GEL), Flooded Lead-Acid (FLD), and Customised (User) battery profiles.

Internal Protections: Comprehensive hardware/firmware protections against over-charging, over-current, reverse polarity (PV, alternator, and backup battery), solar reverse-charging at night, and lithium battery activation.

Thermal Management: Over-temperature protection automatically transitions charging power into a linear reduction to protect internal components.
