Solar connectors, also known as MC4 connectors, are used to securely join solar panels and extension cables in a PV system. They provide a weatherproof, low-resistance connection that ensures safe and efficient current flow between components.

Most modern solar panels use the MC4 standard, making them widely compatible across brands. However, always check that your connectors match in size and type (male/female) before connecting, as older or proprietary panels may use different systems.

Yes. Genuine MC4-style connectors are IP67-rated, meaning they are dust-tight and water-resistant, making them ideal for rooftop or outdoor installations exposed to the elements. Proper crimping and assembly are essential to maintain this weatherproof seal.

Yes, but care and the right tools are required. You’ll need an MC4 crimping tool to ensure a secure connection. Incorrect installation can lead to voltage drop, overheating, or safety risks, so if unsure, it’s best to have a qualified installer assemble them.

The male connector has a metal pin that inserts into the female connector, which has a socket. Together, they form a secure and polarised connection, meaning power can only flow in the correct direction, preventing reverse polarity issues.
