The Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger is an adaptive 3-stage charger (bulk – absorption – float) designed for dual battery systems, such as in vehicles or on boats where the starter battery (hence the alternator) is used to charge the service battery. The name "Smart" comes from its built-in Bluetooth connection, where the charger can be monitored and configured via Bluetooth and can be remotely controlled via a remote on/off switch and has an engine-running detection mechanism. This isolated model allows the input and output to have separate chassis grounds.

Yes. Victron DC-DC chargers are fully compatible with modern smart alternators commonly found in newer vehicles. Smart alternators vary their output to improve fuel efficiency, but without a DC-DC charger, this can result in under-charging your auxiliary battery. Victron chargers overcome this by providing stable, regulated charging regardless of alternator type.

Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger models do not require a relay with your smart alternator.

Victron DC-DC chargers are designed to work with AGM, gel, flooded, and lithium (LiFePO4) batteries.

Most Victron DC-DC chargers have built-in Bluetooth connectivity. Use the VictronConnect app to configure charging settings, monitor performance, and run firmware updates.

The input and output have no shared negative, so the 48 V output can sit on a separate ground from the input system. This is useful where the two battery systems must stay electrically separate, such as on boats or with different chassis grounds.
